Phonecheck

Mac erasure software built for ITAD.

MacCheck is Phonecheck's Mac erasure software for ITAD. It erases MacBooks, iMacs, Mac minis and Mac Studios, runs iCloud and MDM checks, and documents each completed wipe with a certificate.

Two ways to erase a Mac.

MacCheck boots each Mac from an external USB drive, then tests, erases and documents it. This is the route that issues a certificate of erasure, and each Mac gets a Device History Report.

MacCheck Mode, in Phonecheck 3.13 and later, restores and erases Apple silicon and T2 Intel MacBooks over a USB cable through Apple's DFU process, with no bootable drive. Use it to wipe and restore; use MacCheck when you need the certificate.

The Mac Diagnostic Portal shows up to 50 ports or connections at once, so a lead can follow a whole bench from one screen.

iCloud lock and MDM, checked in MacCheck.

MacCheck checks each Mac it processes for iCloud lock and MDM enrollment. Intel Macs with the T2 security chip, from 2018 to 2020, go through a documented one-time unlock and then process normally.

What each certificate records.

Each completed wipe is documented with a certificate of erasure, and each Mac gets a Device History Report beside it. Phonecheck's erasure is built to NIST 800-88 and IEEE 2883.

What your team gets.

  • The tester's name on each erasure report
  • Post-erasure Data Verification
  • NIST Purge on Fusion Drives, plus IEEE and DoD erasure options
  • Certificates served from EU servers for EU accounts
  • A Device History Report for each Mac
  • Results through the 2-way API and webhooks

Independently tested.

Phonecheck has passed ADISA's Product Claims Test for solid state drives, tested with MacDiagnostics & Erasure. The certificate is published on ADISA's register.

Parts and battery, read on the Mac.

MacCheck detects OEM parts for the battery, CPU and GPU, and reports battery health, cycle count and battery service status, so each Mac's condition is on record before it is resold.

Common questions.

How does Phonecheck erase Apple silicon Macs?

Two ways. MacCheck boots the Mac from an external USB drive, erases it and issues a certificate of erasure. MacCheck Mode, in Phonecheck 3.13 and later, restores and erases Apple silicon MacBooks over USB through Apple's DFU process, with no bootable drive.

Can Phonecheck erase Intel Macs with the T2 chip?

Yes. MacCheck processes T2 Intel Macs from 2018 to 2020 through a documented one-time unlock, then runs normally. MacCheck Mode also restores and erases T2 Intel MacBooks over USB.

Does MacCheck check for iCloud lock and MDM?

Yes. MacCheck runs iCloud and MDM checks on each Mac it processes. The same automatic iCloud check runs on phones, tablets and AirPods in Phonecheck.

What does a Mac certificate of erasure record?

The erasure report carries the tester's name, and MacCheck supports post-erasure Data Verification. EU accounts' certificates are served from EU servers. Each Mac also gets a Device History Report with its results.

Has Phonecheck's Mac erasure passed an ADISA test?

Phonecheck has passed ADISA's Product Claims Test for solid state drives, tested with MacDiagnostics & Erasure. The certificate, ADPC231, is published on ADISA's register and is valid to May 29, 2027.

Which Macs does MacCheck cover?

MacBooks, iMacs, Mac minis and Mac Studios, including Apple silicon through M4. MacCheck Mode covers MacBooks: Apple silicon models and Intel models with the T2 chip.

Can results go straight into our own systems?

Yes. Phonecheck's 2-way API lets a warehouse system drive processing and pull results at each stage, with webhooks configurable per profile. Each Mac's Device History Report is also available as JSON.
