One of the most beloved features of iPhones is the ability to download an app for just about anything. Want to keep track of your calories? Read some celebrity gossip? Book a dog walker? There’s an app for all of that! We have no shame in downloading them, especially if they’re free. It doesn’t take long before iPhones are totally loaded full with apps, storage becomes full and performance starts to slow down. Before you sell your used iPhone, especially if it is your business, it is very important to uninstall iPhone apps and get it running as good as new.
How To Remove Apps From iPhone
There are many ways to uninstall iPhone apps, and we will go through all of them. Depending on your needs, you can decide which method works best for you. If you’re looking to find out how to delete apps on iPhone, keep reading!
Tap and Hold
The simplest way to uninstall iPhone apps is to simply tap and hold on the home screen.
- Press and hold down any app icon, it doesn’t necessarily have to be the icon of the app that you want to delete
- After a moment, all your icons will start to shake and have a small X in the upper left
- Tap the X on the upper left of the app
- The app is now deleted
- Once you’re done, either tap on the home button if you have one, or tap on Done in the top right corner if you do not have a home button
Uninstall iPhone Apps Through Settings
If you want to clear up storage on your phone and want to know which apps use the most, you can uninstall iPhone apps through the Settings.
- Open the Settings app (looks like a gear)
- Tap on General
- Tap on iPhone Storage
- Here, you see a list of the apps on your phone and how much storage space they are using. This may take a moment to load, especially if you have a lot of apps.
- Above the list of apps, there may be an option called “Offload Unused Apps.” This will make your iPhone automatically delete apps that you haven’t used in a long time. If you do not see this option, it is because you have plenty of storage.
- In the list of apps, tap on any app that you want to delete
- Once it opens to the data of the app, tap on Delete.
If you are a business that sells used iPhones, it can be very time consuming to individually delete every single app of every single phone that comes through your doors. Instead, you can choose to uninstall iPhone apps through a diagnostics software, such as PhoneCheck.
Not only will PhoneCheck delete all the apps, it will completely clear the phone of all data and restore it to factory settings. If that wasn’t good enough, it will also test dozens of test points on the phone, such as speaker quality, battery health, bluetooth strength and much more. To top it all off, all of this is performed in under 2 minutes and comes complete with a print-out certification. This gives buyers peace of mind that they are buying a quality product from you, and you can feel good about everything you are selling.
Why Should I Remove Apps from iPhone?
Apps are not all made by Apple, rather, the majority of them are made by third parties. They are generally approved by Apple in order to make it into the App Store, but this does not necessarily mean that they are 100% safe. You never know what updates might be made to your favorite apps or who the developers are that create them. There are many reasons to remove apps from an iPhone, especially if you are about to sell your used iPhone.
If there are a lot of apps on your iPhone and your phone is running poorly, it is because they are using a lot of storage and battery. Even if the apps are not open, they are still running and collecting data such as location and wifi signals. This is especially true for free apps, since they operate from advertising funds. Those advertisements are constantly waiting to be served to you. Once these apps are deleted off your phone, you will notice your phone will perform a lot faster and your battery won’t die as quickly. Probably the most important reason to uninstall iPhone apps is security. When you install and sign up for apps, a lot of information is stored in them. This can include personal details such as your name, email address, physical address or credit card information. There are many places that your information is stored throughout your iPhone, so before you sell it, make sure everything is clear and removed properly. Simply deleting it doesn’t necessarily mean it is off your phone, so take those extra measures to double-check.
This is especially true for people who use their phone for company use. Apps are constantly fishing for new information in order to make their app better for you, so if you have a lot of sensitive information on your phone, this can put some of your data in a compromising position. Don’t download free apps on your company phone. Once you are about to turn your phone back to your company, or if your company is selling your phone, go through the extra measures to ensure all your data is deleted.
