How to Remove iCloud Activation on Your Employee's Phone

Apple’s iCloud system helps companies coordinate their employee's mobile phone information all in one place. From backups to contact information, iCloud provides employers with an enormously simple way to keep everyone on the same page. But that access isn’t forever. When people leave your company, you’ll need to revoke iCloud access. So what’s the easiest way to remove phone access to your company’s iCloud server? We’re breaking it down in this article.

What is iCloud?

Before we can discuss how to remove iCloud activation from an employee’s phone, we first need to explain what the feature actually does. Apple’s iCloud ensures your employees always have current versions of important information like documents and photos. It also helps keep phones up-to-date, secures all files and documents, and organizes your contacts and calendars.

iCloud Activation And Removal

When your company issues a device to an employee, he or she can also access a personal iCloud account, and deploy the “Activation Lock” and “Find My Phone” features. Unfortunately, due to Apple updates, not even your company’s IT department can wipe a device after it’s iCloud locked.Apple went to great lengths to develop the iCloud lock feature, and unless you know the iCloud email and password combination, there’s almost no way to unlock an employee’s phone. This makes it extremely difficult for businesses if disgruntled employees sign into their own iCloud account on company devices. However, several options do exist. First and foremost, the best protection against an iCloud lockout is to mitigate the problem before it arises. Take the time to learn the ins and outs of Apple Configurator. The program allows businesses to restrict iCloud account access to business accounts only. Employees will not be able to log into personal iCloud accounts if Configurator is set up correctly. If employees can’t log into their personal account, your problems are solved before they begin. Bypassing company iCloud locks is as easy as typing in your company iCloud credentials.Though if a former employee does sign into their personal account on a company device, you’re not completely out of options. You can contact Apple, and if you prove ownership of the phone, they’ll remove the iCloud lock.Note that this isn’t something Apple takes lightly. Make sure you have the phone’s serial number, IMEI number, and original invoice information available. Because the iCloud lock is designed to lock stolen phones, Apple won’t unlock the phone without absolute proof of ownership. If you ever do run into a situation where Apple unlocks a phone for you, it makes the perfect catalyst to start learning more about Apple’s options for businesses. Beyond Configurator, Apple also offers something called the Apple Deployment Program, that allows for streamlined IT control of employee devices.
